Our Story
Some twenty kilometers off the city of Colombo towards southwest lies a spectacular natural lake consisting of two large water bodies. From time immemorial, the villagers have learned to name this river as Bolgoda Lake River for reasons better known to them. Bolgoda, presumed to be the largest natural lake in Sri Lanka with some 374 square kilometers of water wedged between the western part of the Kalu and Kelani river basins. Up until recently the Lake separated two historical villages namely Hirana and Kindelpitiya making the travel between them only with the help of a man made wooden ferry and a rope. Lending its rich resources to humanity, irrigating the cultivations of humble villagers residing along the banks, providing a safe home to flora and fauna, this fish-rich river silently winds along her banks to flow to the ocean concealing much of her history beneath her.
